I have a builder I love, why would I need an Interior Designer?
If you’re asking yourself that question, you’re in the right place. Our very favorite projects involve exceptional builders. A good designer should be a huge value-add to both you and the builder.
Let’s start with you. Your project is only successful if it fully represents you and your needs. It's not the builder's job to fully understand the end vision for the day-to-day use of your home. They are not typically the ones getting out the tape measure to map out exactly where your sectional will sit in the room and where you need corresponding floor outlets, lighting, walkways, TV viewing etc.
They aren’t typically measuring your varying collection of art before the project has begun, making sure it fits where you want it with the right lighting and clearances. They typically don’t have time and a vested interest in whether or not the window coverings you prefer will work or if your belongings and collections will fit in your new built-ins.
We say “typically” because maybe you have a gem. They are out there. We know some (Tony Wynne of AW Contracting in Greenwich, CT comes to mind) but even the gems really don’t have the time nor the proclivity to open up those boxes of "family heirlooms" your mom ahem… gifted… you to make sure they are getting the right pride of place while maintaining your style. It is simply not their job. They have enough on their plate and you *need* them more focused on those other things.
We see our job as making the builder’s job easier. For Full-Service Design projects, we are the liaison between you and the builder, effectively translating your vision for your home into a streamlined process mapped against the builder’s needs and your own. It’s our job to supply builders with the product selections that will take the project from good to exceptional. It’s our job to get the builder every detail of those products as far in advance as possible and to make sure those products are on-site BEFORE they are needed.
